Local authorities are actively investigating a disturbing daytime incident in Kooyong where a pack of eight dogs is being hailed for their swift action in thwarting an attempted sexual assault on two women.

The incident unfolded this past Tuesday around 11:30 AM, along the scenic Gardiners Creek walking track. A 67-year-old woman from Toorak and a 39-year-old woman from Glen Iris were enjoying their routine walk with their group of canine companions when they were suddenly confronted.

According to reports provided to investigators, a man abruptly emerged from a nearby bushland area, ambushing the pair. He allegedly placed his arms around one of the women, attempting to restrain her, before she bravely managed to push him away. The assailant then reportedly turned his attention to the second woman.

However, before the situation could escalate further, the vigilant team of eight dogs sprang into action. The canines immediately gave chase to the perpetrator, pursuing him vigorously into a nearby tunnel situated beneath the Monash Freeway. During the chase, the dogs reportedly managed to tear off a piece of the man's clothing, leaving behind a crucial piece of potential evidence for forensic examination.

Detectives have since released a facial composite of the man they wish to speak with in connection with the incident. He is described as being of African appearance, and at the time of the attack, was wearing black tracksuit pants, white socks, slides, and a black and grey hooded top. He was also observed wearing a black face covering and carrying a large, bright blue backpack.
