Man Pleads Guilty to Culpable Driving Causing Death After Supanova Collision

A 34-year-old man has pleaded guilty to culpable driving causing death after a collision outside a major pop culture convention in Melbourne earlier this year.

Awer Dau drove into three people leaving the Supanova Comic Con and Gaming convention at the Melbourne Showgrounds in April, killing a 20-year-old man from Keysborough.

Another 20-year-old man was taken to hospital for significant lower body injuries after the incident on April 18, while a third man was taken to hospital for observation.

Dau was subsequently charged with culpable driving causing death, methamphetamine possession, negligent driving causing serious injury and failing to render assistance after an accident whereby a death has occurred.

Appearing in the Melbourne Magistrates' Court via video link on Tuesday, he pleaded guilty to all four charges.

The court heard victim impact statements will be submitted in relation to the case.

He will next appear in the County Court in February.

Convention organisers held a minute's silence for the victims after the April incident, saying they were "deeply saddened and distressed" by the incident in a social media statement.

Floral tributes were also left at the scene by attendees.
