A somber atmosphere has settled over Morwell after local authorities confirmed the death of a 58-year-old man, leading to the swift arrest of another individual.

Emergency services were called to a property in the Gippsland town, approximately 150 kilometers east of Melbourne, shortly after 3:30 PM yesterday. Upon arrival, police found an unresponsive man within the residence. Paramedics confirmed his death at the scene.

The circumstances surrounding the man's death quickly led to the involvement of the state's homicide squad. A 43-year-old Morwell man was apprehended a short time later in the nearby town of Traralgon. He is currently assisting police with their inquiries and is expected to undergo a formal interview later today.

While the identity of the deceased has not yet been publicly released, investigators have indicated that both men were known to each other, a detail crucial to the ongoing investigation.

A significant police presence remains at the Morwell property, which has been cordoned off as a crime scene. Forensic experts are meticulously examining the area for evidence, and detectives are canvassing the neighborhood for witnesses and any relevant information.

Local authorities are urging anyone with information related to the incident, no matter how minor, to come forward. Members of the public can contact Crime Stoppers anonymously on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online.
