Adelaide's Rundle Mall transformed into a vibrant sea of pink today as the beloved Adelaide Thunderbirds returned home to an ecstatic welcome following their historic grand final victory. Hundreds of devoted fans, affectionately known as the 'pink army,' gathered to cheer for their champions, who clinched the national netball league title in a record-breaking performance.

The Thunderbirds secured their memorable triumph over the Melbourne Vixens with a commanding 61-40 scoreline. This impressive 21-goal margin stands as the largest in the history of the national netball league era, a testament to the team's dominance throughout the season. The grand final showdown, witnessed by over 10,000 passionate fans at John Cain Arena, saw the South Australian team rise definitively to the occasion.

Fans Share Their Unbridled Pride

The atmosphere in Rundle Mall was electric, filled with cheers and heartfelt tributes from fans of all ages. J'Aime Braysher, who watched the game with her family, including her grandfather Lou Baker, expressed her relief and immense pride. "I was so nervous," she admitted, "We actually made it, I was surprised. I am so proud... they did so good this year, only one loss."

Young netball enthusiast Charlie Reid, a veteran of over 100 games for his under-13s mixed team, struggled to find words for his excitement. "Words can't describe how excited I was when the Thunderbirds won," he shared, highlighting his long-standing dedication to the team. Another aspiring player, Skylah Eime, echoed the sentiment of pride, while her mother Sharni Eime emphasized the crucial role the team plays as role models. "I think it's so good for the little girls as well, just to have something to look forward to, and some girls to look up to," Sharni noted.

Official Praise and Ongoing Celebrations

Bronwyn Klei, CEO of Netball South Australia and the Adelaide Thunderbirds, extended her deepest gratitude to the fervent fan base. "This is obviously a very big day for netball in South Australia and the Adelaide Thunderbirds, and on behalf of everybody, I just want to say the biggest thank you to the pink army – they are the best fans in the league," Klei stated, adding passionately, "Netball is a team sport, and all of South Australia is our team."

Acting South Australian Premier Kyam Maher lauded the victory as "an amazing victory," remarking that "to see Adelaide doing so well makes us all so very proud." Opposition leader Ashton Hurn also celebrated the achievement, describing the grand final as an "absolute ripper" and acknowledging the team's "incredible season."
