Adelaide Thunderbirds Ignite 'Pink Army' in Historic Homecoming Celebration

A vibrant sea of pink descended on Adelaide's Rundle Mall today as passionate supporters welcomed home the victorious Thunderbirds after their historic grand final triumph.

The Adelaide Thunderbirds secured the championship with a dominant performance against the Melbourne Vixens, playing in front of 10,040 spectators at John Cain Arena. The final score of 61-40 established a 21-goal margin, marking the largest winning margin in the history of the national netball league era.

Known affectionately as the "pink army," hundreds of fans gathered in the heart of the city to cheer as the players walked onto the stage.

Fans Celebrate Historic Victory

Among the crowd was fan J'Aime Braysher, who watched the intense matchup with her family, including her grandfather Lou Baker. Braysher admitted to feeling anxious during the game but was thrilled with the result. "I was so nervous," she said. "We actually made it, I was surprised." She added: "I am so proud ... they did so good this year, only one loss."

Young netball player Charlie Reid, who has played more than 100 netball games for his under 13s mixed team, shared his immense excitement. Reid stated that "words can't describe" his feelings when the Thunderbirds clinched the win. "I've been watching them for a long time," he said.

Another young player, Skylah Eime, expressed that she felt "really" proud of the Adelaide Thunderbirds. Her mother, Sharni Eime, highlighted the positive influence the team has on aspiring players. "I think it's so good for the little girls as well, just to have something to look forward to, and some girls to look up to," she said.

A Proud Day for South Australian Netball

Netball South Australia and Adelaide Thunderbirds Chief Executive Officer Bronwyn Klei extended her gratitude to the dedicated supporters. "This is obviously a very big day for netball in South Australia and the Adelaide Thunderbirds and on behalf of everybody I just want to say the biggest thank you to the pink army -- they are the best fans in the league," Klei said. "Netball is a team sport and all of South Australia is our team."

Acting South Australian Premier Kyam Maher lauded the achievement as "an amazing victory" and remarked that seeing Adelaide perform so well made everyone incredibly proud. Opposition leader Ashton Hurn also praised the championship decider as a "ripper" of a game. "They've had an incredible season and it was topped off by an absolute ripper grand final," Hurn said.

Festivities and Future Outlook

The celebrations continued as the players participated in Mad Monday festivities, trading their netball uniforms for creative costumes of their favorite childhood characters.

This landmark victory follows the recent announcement that co-captain Georgie Horjus has been selected to play for the Australian Diamonds in the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, which are scheduled to begin later this month. Meanwhile, a start date for the 2027 Suncorp Super Netball season has yet to be announced.
