A 57-year-old former police forensics officer from Bendigo has been charged with multiple offences, including possession of child abuse material.

Vincent Manner, who previously worked as a digital forensic officer, was charged this week with misconduct in public office, failing to provide information under warrant, and up to six counts of accessing and possessing child abuse material.

According to police, Mr Manner was suspended without pay in August last year and subsequently resigned in November amid an ongoing investigation.

The investigation was conducted by the Professional Standards Unit in conjunction with the Cybercrime Squad, and in collaboration with the Office of Public Prosecutions (OPP).

"Following the identification of a number of potentially affected matters, a formal review of the forensic data was conducted. This re-examination has been completed,"

A police statement read.

"At this stage it is believed all issues have been identified and reviewed and impacted parties have been notified."

Mr Manner is set to face Bendigo Magistrates Court on November 4.
