A brutal assault on an 18-year-old woman in Melbourne's west has left police appealing for witnesses and investigating a possible online dispute that led to the violent incident.
In a disturbing attack, the teenager was kicked in the head, stomped on, and stabbed multiple times at Robert Bruce Reserve in Deer Park on Wednesday night.
Incident Details
Victoria Police reported that two groups met at the reserve following what is believed to be an online dispute. The 18-year-old woman suffered six stab wounds to her upper body and was taken to hospital in a serious condition. A 20-year-old woman was also assaulted but did not require treatment.
Police said footage of the incident shows the woman being kicked in the head while she was on all fours and then stabbed multiple times.
Police Appeal for Witnesses
Detective Acting Sergeant Ali Samie described the assault as "brutal" and "distressing". "One of the victims was brutally assaulted. She was kicked to the head, stomped on and stabbed repeatedly by one or more of the offenders," he said. "It's outrageous that youths are out there wielding these knives and stabbing people. It only takes a millimetre, and we're talking about a homicide."
Investigation and Aftermath
Police have seized three knives and are forensically testing them. The incident comes a day after the Victorian government announced it would give police sweeping powers to search people for knives if re-elected.
Victoria Police said its investigation into the Deer Park stabbing was ongoing and asked for anyone who witnessed the incident or has footage to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
