Truck Driver Charged Over Fatal Bendigo Crash That Killed Teenager Thom Hosking

A 36-year-old truck driver from Sebastian has been charged by police in connection with the death of 15-year-old Girton Grammar student Thom Hosking in a crash in Bendigo last October.

Thom was struck and killed while crossing the Midland Highway near the intersection of Myrtle Street in Golden Square, Bendigo, on his way to school at around 8:35am.

The truck driver has been charged with dangerous driving causing death, driving in a dangerous manner, careless driving, and failing to give way at a pedestrian crossing.

A statement from Thom's family after his death described him as the "glue of the family".

"Thom's death is a tragedy in the truest form," the statement said. "He was 15. A boy entering manhood with so many of life's great moments about to open up for him."

Police and witnesses have previously reported that a witness started CPR on Thom before multiple specialist paramedics arrived, but he died at the scene.

Girton Grammar principal Emma O'Rielly confirmed in a letter to parents that Thom was a senior student at the school and that counselling was offered to students.

The truck driver was bailed to appear at the Bendigo Magistrates' Court on November 11.
