In a major boost for local representation, Mordialloc MP Tim Richardson has been promoted to the Victorian Cabinet following a swift parliamentary caucus meeting this morning.

Newly appointed Premier Ben Carroll confirmed Richardson's elevation during the ten-minute gathering, marking the first major frontbench addition following the sudden resignation of former premier Jacinta Allan last week.

Streamlined Leadership Strategy

Despite three frontbench vacancies left by the recent departures of former premier Allan and senior ministers Harriet Shing and Lily D'Ambrosio, Premier Carroll decided to fill only a single seat. The move is being viewed within state political circles as an austerity measure designed to maintain stability and avoid introducing inexperienced ministers just months out from the state election on November 28.

A wider allocation of cabinet portfolios is expected in the coming days. Senior minister Colin Brooks is considered a frontrunner to take over as Treasurer, while Ingrid Stitt is tipped to assume the high-profile Health portfolio.
