Hawthorn's AFLW team has been dealt a devastating blow with the news that star player Emily Bates has suffered a torn ACL, ruling her out for the remainder of the season.
Bates, the 30-year-old club captain, sustained the injury during the Hawks' win over the Western Bulldogs on Saturday, when her leg twisted awkwardly in a tackle. Scans have confirmed that she has torn the anterior cruciate ligament in her right knee and also damaged the meniscus.
