Victoria's Power Grid on 'Knife's Edge' as Data Centres Boom

Victoria's power grid is facing unprecedented pressure as the state's data centre boom drives surging demand for renewable energy. The Golden Plains Wind Farm, one of the largest in the Southern Hemisphere, is set to almost double its capacity to 1.3 gigawatts, but a significant portion of its output will be consumed by just two data centres.

Data Centres Driving Demand

The wind farm's managing director, Andrew Riggs, says the facility is currently injecting around 9 per cent of Victoria's annual energy demand into the grid.
