Piano concert held 61m underground in Bendigo gold mine

A unique piano concert was held 61 metres underground in an old gold mine in Bendigo, featuring a 300kg piano formerly owned by the chair of Bendigo Fine Music. The concert celebrated 175 years since gold was first discovered in the central Victorian city.

A unique piano concert 61 metres underground in an old gold mine became a reality yesterday, thanks to the brainwave of Bendigo Fine Music chair Thomas Heywood. The one-off evening performance featured a 300kg piano that was formerly owned by Mr Heywood's mother, a renowned concert pianist.
