Prominent Melbourne entertainment agent Ralph Carr has been publicly identified as the businessman found guilty of rape and sexual assault, following the lifting of a strict legal suppression order in the County Court.

Lifting of the Gag Order

The 66-year-old talent manager, who has spent decades representing elite Australian artists and athletes—including singer Kate Ceberano and former AFL star Dustin Martin—was taken into custody last week after a jury found him guilty of assaulting a woman at his West Melbourne home in March 2023.

A suppression order granted under Section 18(1)(c) of Victoria's Open Courts Act had previously shielded Carr's identity from the public. Defense attorneys had argued that naming him would severely jeopardize his mental health and safety. However, Carr's legal team abandoned their bid to extend the injunction on Monday, clearing the way for his name to be published.

Defense Vows to Appeal

During the trial, prosecutors presented evidence that the assault occurred after a night involving alcohol and drug use. While the defense argued the allegations were fabricated, prosecutors highlighted the consistency and credibility of the victim's testimony throughout the legal proceedings.

Carr's defense counsel, Dermot Dann KC, reiterated his client's innocence following the decision to drop the gag order application, describing the jury's decision as a miscarriage of justice.

"Our client maintains his innocence," Dann stated, confirming that an appeal against the guilty verdicts is already underway.

Carr remains in custody as he awaits his sentencing hearing.
