South Australia has kicked off its Sheffield Shield title defence in style, securing a convincing innings win over Victoria at Junction Oval.

The two-time defending champions dominated the match, ultimately triumphing by an innings and 40 runs. The win was sealed when debutant Noah McFadyen took the final wicket, catching and bowling David Moody.

A standout performance from McFadyen

McFadyen, who top-scored with 134 in South Australia's innings, played a crucial role in the team's victory. He hit two sixes to reach 100, finishing with 16 fours and five maximums.

The 23-year-old all-rounder ended with match figures of 3-65, including the wicket of Moody to clinch the win.

Victoria's struggles continue

Resuming at 7-175 and requiring 89 runs to bat again, Victoria was dismissed for 224. The team had managed 244 in its first innings, but South Australia took control with a mammoth 508.

Fergus O'Neill led Victoria's second innings with 62, while Nathan McAndrew and Henry Thornton took three wickets apiece.
