Beloved Australian actor and long-time Play School presenter Alister Smart has passed away at the age of 90, leaving behind a legacy in the country's entertainment industry.
Mr Smart died on September 9 at his home in East Gippsland, Victoria, with the news of his death only recently becoming public.
A Life in the Arts
Born in Adelaide on November 30, 1935, Mr Smart was raised partly around Nowra. After leaving school, he joined his family's piano restoration business, where he developed an interest in pianos that led him to study at Sydney's Conservatorium of Music.
He later pursued a career in acting, starting in theatre in the early 1950s and going on to appear in numerous television productions in Australia and the UK from the 1950s until the mid-1990s.
A Distinguished Career
Some of his notable credits include Number 96, Skippy, The Sullivans, Sons and Daughters, A Country Practice, and Neighbours.
