Essendon's coaching staff has confirmed that forward Nate Caddy will return to action this Saturday against Hawthorn, following a concerning health incident last weekend.

Caddy Receives All-Clear After Heart Scare

The 21-year-old was transported to the hospital last Sunday during the team's narrow three-point victory over GWS, experiencing an elevated heart rate. After extensive medical evaluation, Caddy was given a clean bill of health and subsequently discharged from the hospital. The club’s medical team has since provided full clearance for him to participate in the upcoming match.

Interim coach Dean Solomon expressed his confidence in Caddy's return, stating, "He'll be good to go. They said there's no risk with what happened, and he's fully good to go. I trust our medical staff, and Nate's in a good headspace as well." Solomon further elaborated on the due diligence undertaken, noting, "He spent a lot of time with the doctors and medical staff, gone through it all and has a good understanding that there's no risk at play here, and he's really confident. So we've just got to trust our medical staff."

Caddy’s return is a timely boost for the Bombers, who are currently dealing with other significant roster challenges. The team will be without Xavier Duursma for the remainder of the season due to a hamstring injury, while Kyle Langford is suspended for the clash against Hawthorn.

McKay's Injury and Carlton's Response

In other league news, star Carlton forward Harry McKay was a notable absentee from the Blues' main training session on Thursday. McKay sustained a minor tear to his meniscus and bone bruising in his knee during Saturday night's 21-point defeat to Collingwood.

The 28-year-old was forced off the field early in the match after an unfortunate collision where his knee made contact with teammate Sam Walsh. Following the incident, significant discussion and conjecture arose regarding the severity of McKay's injury, with some public commentary reportedly questioning the player's condition.

Sources close to the club indicated that the Blues were privately displeased with the criticism leveled against McKay's character amidst the injury speculation. The full extent of his injury was officially confirmed on Sunday, validating the club's initial assessment.

Interim Blues coach Josh Fraser addressed the media, downplaying the impact of external commentary. "Whenever there's an injury, your mindset goes to the care and support for the player," Fraser explained. "We act on the information we're given from our medical team; the commentary around all of that, I probably push it to the side."

Fraser emphasized McKay's positive attitude and commitment, stating, "I can only judge him on the way he's presented, and he's presented his usual self. Great energy around the group, trying as hard as he can to play and leading internally around the club."

Carlton's aspirations for a wildcard spot will be put to the test this Saturday when they host an out-of-form Gold Coast team at Docklands.
